I just had to post this picture because it is one of my favorite. A year ago on this date, Bryce wrote his last letter and it was to Dallin. He told Dallin that if he ever had any questions that he would always be here to answer them...no matter how crazy. So now it is a year later and life just keeps running on.
Hi Family!
It is so good to email again! It took me a long time to read all of the emails that piled up the last couple weeks. But thank you to everyone that emailed. I loved them all.
Today brings with it sad news: after two amazing transfers together, Elder Thurber and I are getting separated. We knew that he would probably be transferring, but it is still sad. He is going to Odori (downtown Sapporo) as a new Zone Leader! He just skipped being District Leader and is going Zone Leader on transfer #8 (really fast, at least in our mission). He is pretty nervous, so you should all pray for him. I have no doubt that he will be an awesome Zone Leader and I am so grateful that I got to learn from him and with him for the past two transfers.
I am staying in Iwamizawa, but have been asked to be District Leader. So that should be exciting. I am sort of nervous, but think that I have it pretty easy in comparison to Elder Thurber. My new companion will be Elder Willis, an elder that is only two transfers behind me. He is from Oregon and is tall, and that is about all that I know about him. But I think we will get along great and have a great transfer. I am pretty happy to have him as a companion because I know that his Japanese is about as good as mine and he has been a missionary nearly as long as I have. I am sure that he will be a great companion.
I hope that you got my letter that I sent on New Years. If not, it should come soon.
That is crazy that Rhett is already home. I am sure his talk was great. He always did like debate/public speaking. I don't, still. Don't expect a great talk like that from me when I get home.
Mom, I am glad that you are keeping in good contact with Sister Daniels. It was actually her birthday yesterday (I think) and so all of the missionaries wrote her letters. I tried to thank her for all that she has done, and for always posting pictures. But you'll be glad to know that I printed out some pictures last week, so I'll try to get them mailed to you soon.
That was fun to read everyone's goals from last year. I did pretty good with mine.
Mom and Dad, I am sure that you are having a hard time right now, so know that I am praying for you. I really don't have time to reminisce about Bryce every day, so things haven't been too hard for me. I just keep on working hard, and that occupies my mind. I have no clue how I will do tomorrow, but I think it won't be too bad because we are going to be super busy all day. We'll see.
Well, that is about my time for today. I love you all so much. It was tons of fun hearing all of you on Christmas. We only get one more phone call left! I am still so far away from finishing my mission, but it is scary how fast that day is coming. Thanks for all of your prayers. I love you.
Elder Christensen
PS - One funny note about being with Elder Willis: I am pretty sure that in Japanese, his name is pronounced the same as the word for "virus". And most Japanese people think that my name is "Christian". So now the people of Iwamizawa will have a Christian with a virus asking to come into their houses. It should be good!
