Hi Family!
I am in Obihiro and it is great! It is weird to be in a city with a lot of people. It has been a week of interesting events and a lot of changes for me.
Yesterday I got the Easter package! Thanks Mom (and Dad and Grandma) for the great package. One of the packets of jello got cut open and so everything in the package was coated in raspberry jello powder. It took me a while a to clean, but it all worked out. Thank you especially to Dad for answering all of my questions. It was way fun to read about your mission. I didn't know that you had been the Recorder in the mission home! And you only had 6 companions during your entire stay in Hong Kong. That is pretty crazy! I am already on companion #7 and I still have five more transfers (probably 3 more companions) left to go.
On Monday I finally received a letter from the mission home containing most of my emails from the past few weeks. They had been slacking off, and I hadn't heard a word from home for a few weeks. So it was nice to get emails.
Obihiro is a nice area, and I am excited to work here. There are nearly as many active priesthood holders here as total active members in Iwamizawa. It is a big change for me. We have gone housing with the Ward Missionary Leader a couple times in the past week. He got home from serving in the Fukuoka mission about 6 months ago. I asked him if he knew Elder Cole Chandler and he said "Know him? We were companions!" That was a pretty cool connection.
The weather in Obihiro is much warmer than in Iwamizawa. I went from negative temperatures and a couple of feet on the ground to warm temperatures and snow only in the shadows. A couple of days ago I wished I didn't have a jacket on because I was getting hot. Last night it snowed about an inch, but it has almost all melted by now.
I guess that this past Sunday was Easter, wasn't it? The only reason I knew is because the opening and closing hymns in Sacrament Meeting were Easter songs. They didn't even announce that it was Easter, and I bet that a lot of the members didn't even know. Sad stuff. I miss Easter. Well, I'll get it next year I guess. And for you it was General Conference. I am looking forward to watching conference this weekend!
Last night we went to a really cool restaurant named Najah. The guy that runs it loves the missionaries and he understands all of the church/missionary lingo that we use. The best part, though, is that he has root beer, so we all got root beer floats!
I seem to get along pretty well with my new companion, Elder Nagata. He actually isn't trunky (yet) and we have been working really hard.
Thanks for all of your great emails, letters, and packages. I love you all and pray for you every day. Have a great week.
Elder Christensen
