Hi Family!
That's too bad that you don't have snow anymore, because we certainly do! In fact, we are going cross-country skiing once we finish emailing. We got it approved through President Daniels, and so we will be some of the only missionaries to ever going skiing on their missions! Sure, it doesn't compare with downhill skiing, but we can still say that we went skiing.
I am sad to hear that you took candy out of my package. I love American candy. Oh well. And yeah, I haven't put on any weight. In fact, I have recently been working out pretty hard and watching what I eat, and I have lost about 2 kilos in the past month.
That is great that Sister Daniels uploaded some music onto the blog. I would assume that it is the cd we all received for Christmas. Yeah, I felt pretty jipped that no one asked me to play something for the cd, but that's life sometimes. Sorry about having nothing from me to listen to. But, this past week I used the piano book that you sent me for Christmas! (the hymn one, not the other one). At Zone Conference each district was supposed to provide a musical number, and since a few elders in my district refuse to sing, I got the lovely assignment.
I was going to play Nearer My God to Thee, but all of the missionaries sang it to thank the sisters that made our lunch. That just happened to be right before my musical number, so in 10 seconds of panic I switched my song to Abide With Me. I just played it from the book, but I had never actually played through it before. So I sightread it for a musical number. I felt sort of guilty, and the beginning was a little rough, but I smoothed it out and it ended up being a decent performance. Just yet another experience of me preparing a piece, having someone else sing it, and then scrambling to come up with something new. Maybe the Lord is preparing me for something...
It is sort of funny how you mention what was going on this time 33 years ago in your email. Do you remember what was going on at this time last year? Exactly 1 year ago I was sitting on a plane, somewhere over the Pacific Ocean on my way to Tokyo. Can you believe that I have now been in Japan for 1 year? Well, it will techinically be 1 year in about 3 hours. Crazy!
Anyways, last week's pday activity and ensuing Zone Conference were great. I ended being the best bowler out of our group of 16 people. I even beat President Daniels (he is usually the best at every sport we play). I think I bowled a 139, 119, and a 136. I know, it doesn't really compete with McKay, but it was still pretty decent. I even got a turkey in my first game.
Yesterday we had a lesson with an investigator and we had a couple sisters from the ward team-up. Sister Iwane teamed up for the first time ever! It was so cool to hear her testify and talk about why she likes church. The weird thing about the lesson is that our investigator is someone that we found the week after we found Sister Iwane. We actually were teaching them at about the same time. But the one investigator got busy and stopped meeting us, while Sister Iwane got baptized and became a member.
Well, that is about it for me. I love you all. Have a great week.
Elder Christensen
